Filming Locations

  • Alnwick Castle

    The central couryard was used for the flying lesson scene along with some Quidditch scenes. The Castle's Guest Hall was also used for some of the Hogwart's Library scenes.

  • Australia House

    Australia House was used to represent Gringotts, the wizard's bank.

  • Black Park

    Hagrid's cottage was built here.

  • Bodleian Library

    This was one of the locations used for the Hogwarts library along with Harrow Boarding School's library and Alnwick Castle's Guest Hall.

  • Bull's Head Passage

    Diagon Alley appears to be close to Leadenhall Market.

  • Christ Church

    Some of the interior shots at Hogwarts were filmed in the Great Hall.

  • Durham Cathedral

    Durham Cathedral was used for many of the Hogwarts classroom scenes.

  • Gloucester Cathedral

    The Cathedral Cloisters were used for many of the corridor scenes at Hogwarts including the Gryffindor dormitory.

  • Goathland Station

    This was used as the setting for Hogsmead Station.

  • Harrow School

    This was one of the locations used for the Hogwarts library along with the Bodleian Library in Oxford and Alnwick Castle's Guest Hall.

  • King's Cross Station

    Platform 4 was used as Platform Nine and Three Quarters.

  • Lacock Abbey

    The Abbey was used for various Hogwarts scenes.

  • Leavesden Studios

    Principal photography began at Leavesden Studios on 29 September 2000, where the core Hogwarts sets-including the Great Hall, corridors, and Gryffindor common room-were constructed and filmed.

  • London Zoo

    Harry has his close encounter with a snake in the Reptile House.
