Christopher Nolan's epic adaptation of Homer's ancient poem follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he struggles for a decade to find his way home after the Trojan War. Along the way he faces gods, monsters, and trials that test his cunning and endurance, while his wife Penelope and son Telemachus contend with their own hardships at home. Written and directed by Nolan, the film assembles a sprawling ensemble cast for this large-scale action-adventure. It marks Nolan's first film built explicitly around Greek mythology.

Filming Locations

  • Culbin Forest

    This was used as the Land of Telepylos where the crew are attacked by armoured giants. No CGI was used for this - instead very tall and very short actors were dressed in relevant armour to highlight the difference in size between the two factions.

  • Findlater Castle

    Findlater Castle was used as Circe's home where the crew suffer a temporary conversion.

  • Sunnyside Beach

    This was where Odysseus and his crew arrive on Aeaea's shore, prior to their encounter with Circe (played by Samantha Morton).
