The Bodleian Library is the principal research library of the University of Oxford and one of the oldest and most significant libraries in Europe. Founded in its current form in 1602 by Sir Thomas Bodley, the library occupies a complex of historic buildings around the Schools Quadrangle in the centre of Oxford, including the fifteenth-century Divinity School. As a legal deposit library, it is entitled to receive a copy of every book published in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The library holds over thirteen million printed items and is a UNESCO registered site.
