Filming Locations

• Barnsley

  The film is set in the fictional Grimley, closely based on Grimethorpe in the Barnsley area, with Grimethorpe Colliery used for the colliery entrance scenes including Danny's collapse.

• Grimethorpe

  Much of the film was shot on location in Grimethorpe village itself, using High Street, Windmill Avenue, Chapel Street and surrounding streets to depict the fictional mining community of Grimley.

• Grimethorpe Hotel

  The former Grimethorpe Hotel on High Street, Grimethorpe was used as a filming location for street scenes in the village.

• Hatfield Colliery

  Hatfield Colliery in Stainforth, South Yorkshire was used as a filming location for pit and colliery scenes in the film.

• Piece Hall

  The Piece Hall in Halifax, West Yorkshire was used for the brass band heats competition scenes.

• Rotherham

  Several scenes in Brassed Off were filmed in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, as part of the film's broader use of South Yorkshire locations to represent the mining community setting.

• Royal Albert Hall

  The exterior of the Royal Albert Hall provided the setting for the film's climactic finale, where Grimley Colliery Band compete in the National Brass Band Championships (though interior competition scenes were filmed at Birmingham Town Hall).

• The Red Rum Pub

  The Colliery Arms pub on Cemetery Road in Grimethorpe (now trading as the Red Rum) was used for exterior pub scenes in the film.

• White City Estate
