Piece Hall

Piece Hall

Piece Hall, Halifax, Yorkshire, England

The Piece Hall is a large historic cloth hall located in the centre of Halifax in West Yorkshire, originally built in 1779 as a market for the trading of cloth pieces, particularly wool and worsted textiles. The building is a remarkable example of 18th-century industrial architecture, constructed around a large central courtyard surrounded by colonnaded galleries and containing over 300 individual merchant rooms. The Piece Hall is the only surviving example of such a cloth hall in the world and is a Grade I listed building. It was fully restored and reopened in 2017 as a cultural and retail venue and is now one of the most significant heritage attractions in northern England.
