The Red Rum Pub
Grimethorpe is a former colliery village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, historically dependent on the coal mining industry, most notably Grimethorpe Colliery which closed in 1993. The village gained wider recognition through the 1996 film Brassed Off, which was partly filmed in the area and depicted the community's struggle following pit closures. The pubs and community buildings of Grimethorpe reflect its working-class heritage as a tight-knit mining settlement in the South Yorkshire coalfield.
