The Wicker Man
1973
A police sergeant travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl and finds himself confronting a pagan community with deeply disturbing beliefs and traditions. Robin Hardy's cult folk horror film, starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, is one of British cinema's most unsettling experiences.

Filming Locations
-
Anwoth
Anwoth provided the maypole dance sequence, the Summerisle schoolhouse (used for both interior and exterior shots), and the deconsecrated kirk and graveyard where Howie investigates the supposed burial of missing girl Rowan Morrison.
-
Kirkcudbright
Kirkcudbright's High Street was used for May Morrison's post office and sweetshop where Howie begins his search for Rowan, while the Greyfriars Episcopal Church served as the mainland church seen at the film's opening.
-
Newton Stewart
The production was based at Newton Stewart, and nearby Castle Kennedy Gardens provided the interior of Lord Summerisle's castle; the wicker man itself was constructed on the peninsula south of Newton Stewart between Luce and Wigtown Bays.
-
Plockton
Plockton's harbour and seafront doubled for Summerisle harbour, used for Sergeant Howie's arrival on the island by seaplane and his subsequent house-to-house search for the missing girl.
