Kirkcudbright

Kirkcudbright, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland

Kirkcudbright is a small historic town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, southwest Scotland, situated at the mouth of the River Dee on the Solway Firth. The town is known as the Artists' Town due to its long association with the Glasgow Boys and other artists who established a colony there from the late 19th century, attracted by the quality of light and picturesque harbour. It retains a compact centre of colourful painted townhouses, a 16th-century castle, and a local museum dedicated to its artistic heritage.
