Filming Locations

  • Charlecote House

    The 'Johnny in the bath' scene was filmed in the brew room. The tack room was used as a shop. A London street set was built in the car park.

  • Douglas

    Douglas's older Victorian and Edwardian streets were dressed and used as Restoration-era London locations, providing the period urban backdrops for scenes in this biography of John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester.

  • Hampton Court Palace

    Hampton Court Palace was used for the Restoration court scenes, providing the authentic regal setting for Rochester's encounters with King Charles II (John Malkovich).

  • Montacute House

    This was used as the Rochester's country seat of Adderbury. A love scene and Rochester's death were filmed in the Crimson Bedroom. The surrounding park was used for a scene where Rochester saves a boy from drowning.
