Montacute House
Montacute House is a late Elizabethan country house located in the village of Montacute in Somerset, approximately 4 miles west of Yeovil. Built in the 1590s for Sir Edward Phelips from local Ham Hill stone, it is one of the finest examples of Elizabethan architecture in England, featuring a symmetrical facade with ornate gables, bay windows, and carved stonework. The house contains an important collection of historic portraits, many on loan from the National Portrait Gallery, and is set within formal gardens with topiary, a balustraded forecourt, and parkland walks. It is owned and managed by the National Trust and is open to the public.
