Three women living in different eras — Virginia Woolf writing in 1920s Richmond, a housewife in 1950s Los Angeles, and a book editor in contemporary New York — are each caught in a crisis of identity, desire and mortality, their lives linked by Woolf's novel Mrs Dalloway. Based on Michael Cunningham's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

Filming Locations

  • Great Central Railway

    The Richmond railway station scene was filmed here on 12th-14th June 2001. One carriage was owned by Vintage Carriages Trust and two carriages were owned by the Isle Of Wight Railway Co Ltd.

  • Luton

    The director's own house south of Luton was used for the Richmond home of Virginia and Leonard Woolf.

  • Pinewood Studios

    Various interiors were filmed here.
