  • Great Central Railway

The Great Central Railway at Loughborough Central Station stood in for Oxford station, as the real station had been modernised beyond recognition; platform scenes showing period steam locomotives of the 1950s were filmed here.

  • Magdalen College

The film opens with a choral service in Magdalen's magnificent 15th-century Chapel; the college also features scenes of the dons processing to formal dinner, and later Lewis and Joy attend the May Day Morning festivities with the choir singing Hymnus Eucharisticus from the Great Tower.

  • Radcliffe Camera

The Radcliffe Camera reading room in Oxford was used to depict C. S. Lewis's academic research environment, contributing to the film's authentic recreation of 1950s Oxford University life.

  • Ross On Wye

The Pengethley Manor Hotel was used as a stop over.

  • Shepperton Studios

Studio interior scenes were filmed at Shepperton, providing sets for the domestic interiors of the house Lewis shares with his brother Warnie and other enclosed settings.

  • Symonds Yat

Lewis and Joy travel to find the 'Golden Valley' that hangs as a painting in Lewis's study; the view shown in the film is Symonds Yat Rock overlooking the River Wye, which substituted for the actual Golden Valley as a more photogenic location.
