Grimsby

Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England

Grimsby, formally Great Grimsby, is a seaport and industrial town in North East Lincolnshire, England, situated on the south bank of the Humber estuary near its mouth. It developed from a medieval Norse fishing settlement and grew to become one of the largest fishing ports in the world during the 19th and early 20th centuries, though the fishing industry declined sharply following the cod wars of the 1970s. The town retains a strong fish-processing and food industry and is a centre for the offshore wind energy sector servicing turbines in the Humber and North Sea. Grimsby lies approximately thirty miles south-east of Hull across the Humber Bridge.
