The movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former Formula 1 driver who left the sport under difficult circumstances and is persuaded to return decades later to race for a struggling backmarker team called APXGP. Alongside him is Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a young and talented driver whose ambitions create a tense and competitive dynamic within the team. Filmed in genuine cooperation with Formula 1, the movie incorporates real Grand Prix weekends and authentic circuits around the world, giving it a level of realism rarely seen in motorsport films.

Filming Locations

  • Brands Hatch Racing Circuit

    Sonny Hayes' early career crash at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza was actually filmed at Brands Hatch. The accident itself is based on Martin Donnelly's terrible crash at the Spanish Grand Prix in 1990 and Martin gets a credit in the end of film titles.

  • McLaren Technology Centre

    This was used as the exterior of the APXGP team. A number of interior scenes were shot here including Ruben's office (which is actually the team canteen) and the gym.

  • Mercedes-Benz F1 Team HQ

    The central interior hall was filmed here.

  • Silverstone Circuit

    This was where Sonny Hayes first tries out the APXGP car. Filming also occurred during the 2024 British Formula 1 Grand which was used as the backdrop for Sonny's first race with the team.

  • The Globe Inn

    This was where Sonny and Kate meet for a drink early in the film to discuss aerodynamics and other topics.

  • Williams F1 Team HQ

    The wind tunnel scenes were filmed at the Williams HQ.
