Thetford Forest
Thetford Forest is the largest lowland pine forest in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 190 square miles across the Breckland area of Norfolk and Suffolk in East Anglia. The forest was largely planted by the Forestry Commission from the 1920s onwards on former heathland, and is managed today by Forestry England as a major site for recreation, wildlife, and timber production. The forest surrounds the historic town of Thetford and provides habitats for species including red squirrel and rare Breckland birds, and has served as a filming location for various productions owing to its capacity to double for different forest environments.
