Powderham Castle
Powderham Castle is a medieval castle and stately home located in the village of Powderham on the Exe Estuary in Devon, approximately 8 miles south of Exeter. The castle was built in the late 14th century by Sir Philip Courtenay and has been the ancestral home of the Courtenay family, Earls of Devon, ever since. The castle was extensively remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries and is set within a deer park that borders the Exe Estuary, providing views across the water toward the Haldon Hills. It is open to the public and is a popular heritage attraction in Devon.
