Pepys Estate, New Cross
The Pepys Estate is a large post-war social housing estate located in Deptford, in the London Borough of Lewisham, close to the border with Greenwich. It was built in the 1960s and 1970s and includes several tower blocks and lower-rise housing, named after the diarist Samuel Pepys who was associated with the nearby Royal Navy Dockyard at Deptford. The estate overlooks the River Thames and the development replaced former industrial and dockland land following the decline of the Deptford wharves. The area has been subject to ongoing regeneration and investment as part of the broader transformation of south-east London's riverside districts.
