Newcastle upon Tyne is a city in Tyne and Wear, northeast England, situated on the north bank of the River Tyne approximately 8 miles from the North Sea coast. The city is known for its iconic Tyne Bridge, its vibrant Quayside area, and a rich industrial heritage in shipbuilding and engineering, as well as being the commercial and cultural capital of northeast England. Newcastle is home to two universities, several major cultural institutions including the Theatre Royal and the Great North Museum, and a regional airport connecting to domestic and European destinations.
