A jazz musician arrives in Newcastle to play a residency and becomes entangled in a web of crime and menace when a local gangster takes an interest in the nightclub where he is performing. Mike Figgis's atmospheric thriller is notable for its moody jazz score and the strong presence of the north-east English city.
