Merthyr Mawr
Merthyr Mawr is a small, picturesque village in the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales, situated near the town of Bridgend on the south coast of Wales. The village is known for its thatched cottages, a rarity in Wales, and is adjacent to Merthyr Mawr Warren, a nationally important sand dune system that includes some of the highest dunes in Europe, locally known as the Big Dipper. The dunes are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and have been used as a filming location, most notably for the training scenes in the 1981 film Chariots of Fire.
