Mentmore Towers
Mentmore Towers is a large Victorian country house located in the village of Mentmore in Buckinghamshire. It was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, architect of the Crystal Palace, and built between 1852 and 1854 for Mayer Amschel de Rothschild of the famous banking family. The house is a celebrated example of the Jacobethan Revival style and is noted for its innovative use of plate glass in its large windows. The building was controversially sold by the government in 1977 and has been used as the headquarters of the Transcendental Meditation movement.
