Loch Ness

Loch Ness

Loch Ness, Highlands, Scotland

Loch Ness is a large freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands, forming part of the Great Glen fault line that runs diagonally across Scotland from Fort William to Inverness. The loch is approximately 23 miles long and reaches depths of over 200 metres, making it the largest body of fresh water by volume in the British Isles. It is internationally known for the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, first widely reported in 1933, and the ruins of Urquhart Castle on its western shore are one of the most visited historic sites in Scotland.
