Greenwich is a district in south-east London and the administrative centre of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, situated on the south bank of the River Thames. It is one of the most historically significant locations in the United Kingdom and is home to the Royal Observatory, which gave its name to Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian of the world. The Old Royal Naval College, the National Maritime Museum, and the Cutty Sark are among the major heritage attractions concentrated in the town centre. The historic centre of Greenwich, together with several associated buildings, is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
