Govan Shipyard

The Govan shipyards are historic shipbuilding yards on the south bank of the River Clyde in the Govan district of Glasgow. Shipbuilding on the Clyde at Govan dates back to the early 19th century and the yards were among the most productive in the world during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Today, BAE Systems Surface Ships operates a naval shipbuilding and maintenance facility at the site, which has built several of the Royal Navy's Type 26 frigates. The adjacent Fairfield Heritage centre preserves the history of the original Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company in the former drawing office building.
