Deptford
Deptford is a district in the London Borough of Lewisham in southeast London, situated on the south bank of the River Thames approximately 5 kilometres east of central London. It has a long maritime history, having been the site of the Royal Dockyard at Deptford, established by Henry VIII in 1513 as the first Royal Navy dockyard on the Thames. The playwright Christopher Marlowe was killed in Deptford in 1593. The area has undergone significant regeneration in recent decades, with the Deptford Creekside development and proximity to Greenwich contributing to its ongoing transformation.
