Clink Street

Clink Street, London, England

Clink Street is a short street on the south bank of the River Thames in the London Borough of Southwark, running beneath the railway viaducts close to London Bridge. It takes its name from the Clink Prison, which stood in this area from the twelfth century until 1780 and gave its name to the colloquial British term for imprisonment. The street is now home to the Clink Prison Museum, housed in what remains of the prison's foundations, and passes by the reconstructed Golden Hinde sailing ship. The area around Clink Street forms part of the historic Bankside district and is popular with tourists.
