Charlestown

Charlestown, Cornwall, England

Charlestown is a small historic port village situated on the south coast of Cornwall, approximately two miles south-east of St Austell. The harbour was built between 1791 and 1801 by the industrialist Charles Rashleigh to export copper ore and china clay from the surrounding area. The port is notable for its well-preserved Georgian and Regency character, having changed remarkably little since the early nineteenth century. It is home to a fleet of tall ships based at the Square Sail Ship Company, making it one of the most popular maritime filming locations in the United Kingdom.
