Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, London, England

Alexandra Palace is a large entertainment and sports venue situated on a hill in the London Borough of Haringey, in the Wood Green area of north London. Opened in 1873, it was built to serve as a public recreation centre for north London, modelled in concept on the Crystal Palace in south London. The building was famously the site of the world's first regular high-definition public television broadcasts, made by the BBC in 1936. After suffering two major fires, the palace has been extensively restored and today hosts concerts, exhibitions, ice skating, and a farmers' market.
