Several sounds stages were used here: Stage 1 was used for the pod bay; Stage 2 for the Aries passenger area; Stage 3 'The Dawn of Man' sequence and interior of Space Station 5; Stage 4 contained the centrifuge, Discovery emergency airlock and the bedroom at the end of the film; Stage 5 was used for the Clavius Base conference room.

Stage H was used because it could house the 60-by-120-by-60-foot (18 m x 37 m x 18 m) pit for the Tycho crater excavation scene, the first to be shot.
