Tyrone
County Tyrone is the largest county in Northern Ireland, a largely inland county in the west of the province dominated by the Sperrin Mountains in the north and the broad, boggy valleys and drumlins of the southern interior. The Sperrins are a range of gentle, rounded quartzite mountains forming a major watershed between the north and south of the county, with Sawel Mountain reaching 678 metres as the range's highest point. The county has a strong Ulster-Scots heritage and numerous connections to the Scots-Irish emigrants who played a significant role in the founding of the United States of America, reflected in the Ulster American Folk Park near Omagh. Omagh, the county town, is situated at the confluence of the Drumragh and Camowen rivers, which combine to form the River Strule.
