Fife, Scotland

Fife is a peninsula council area in eastern Scotland, bounded by the Firth of Tay to the north, the Firth of Forth to the south, and the North Sea to the east, giving it a distinctive maritime character. The East Neuk of Fife, a series of well-preserved fishing villages including Crail, Pittenweem, and St Monans, with their characteristic crow-stepped gabled houses and working harbours, is among the most charming coastal landscapes in Scotland. St Andrews, on the east coast of Fife, is home to Scotland's oldest university, founded in 1413, and the Old Course at St Andrews, widely regarded as the home of golf. Glenrothes serves as the administrative centre, though Dunfermline, the former capital of Scotland, is the largest town.
