Filming Locations

  • Blackhall Colliery

    The film's bleak climax, in which Carter pursues and kills Eric on the beach by the aerial ropeway coal skips, was filmed at Blackhall Rocks Beach near Blackhall Colliery.

  • Durham

    Dryderdale Hall in Hamsterley, County Durham, served as the home of villain Cyril Kinnear; scenes there include Carter's confrontation with Kinnear and the police raid in which Margaret's body is dragged from the grounds' lake.

  • Gateshead

    The brutalist Trinity Square multi-storey car park dominates the Gateshead scenes, including the sequence where Jack Carter confronts and throws corrupt businessman Cliff Brumby to his death from the roof.

  • Newcastle-upon-Tyne

    Numerous Newcastle city-centre locations were used, including Neville Street, Pink Lane, West Road Crematorium for the funeral scene, and Newcastle Racecourse at High Gosforth Park.
