Swansea
Swansea (Abertawe in Welsh) is a coastal city in south Wales, the second-largest city in Wales, situated on Swansea Bay at the mouth of the River Tawe. The city is the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, Britain's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which extends to the west with its dramatic cliffs, sandy bays, and common land. Swansea is the birthplace of numerous notable figures including poet Dylan Thomas, actor Richard Burton, and has the Dylan Thomas Centre in the city celebrating the poet's life and work. The city has undergone significant regeneration of its waterfront and city centre since the 1990s, with the redevelopment of the SA1 Swansea Waterfront area transforming the former docklands.
