Laugharne

Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, Wales

Laugharne (Talacharn in Welsh) is a small town on the Taf Estuary in Carmarthenshire, Wales, most famous as the home and final resting place of the poet Dylan Thomas. Thomas lived in Laugharne for the last four years of his life, from 1949 to 1953, in The Boathouse on the estuary, and the town and its estuary are thought to have inspired Llareggub, the fictional village in his celebrated radio play Under Milk Wood. The town retains a distinctive character with its Norman castle overlooking the estuary, narrow streets, and the Dylan Thomas Boathouse, now a museum. Laugharne holds an annual literary festival and is an important destination for literary tourism.
