Ammanford
Ammanford (Rhydaman in Welsh) is a town in Carmarthenshire, Wales, situated in the Amman Valley at the confluence of the Amman and Loughor rivers. The town developed significantly during the 19th and early 20th centuries as a centre of anthracite coal mining in the South Wales coalfield. Ammanford is a strongly Welsh-speaking community considered part of the Welsh-language heartland known as Y Fro Gymraeg, with Welsh widely spoken in everyday life. Since the closure of the coal industry the town has faced economic challenges but continues as a market town serving the rural communities of the Amman Valley.
