Gibson Mill

Gibson Mill, Yorkshire, England

Gibson Mill is a former cotton mill situated in the Hardcastle Crags valley near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, now managed by the National Trust as a visitor attraction. The mill was built around 1800 on Hebden Water using water power to drive the textile machinery, and operated until the early 20th century when it became a leisure facility for day-trippers, serving as a dance hall and tea rooms. The National Trust acquired the property in the 1950s and has restored the mill building to house exhibitions about its industrial and social history, with the mill now operating off-grid using a combination of hydroelectric and solar power. The mill is accessible only on foot through the Hardcastle Crags woodland, adding to its sense of discovery.
