Grasmere
Grasmere is a small village in the heart of the Lake District in Cumbria, situated at the northern end of Grasmere lake in one of the most beautiful and visited valleys in the national park. The village is most closely associated with the Romantic poet William Wordsworth, who lived at Dove Cottage from 1799 to 1808, writing some of his finest work there, and is buried in the churchyard of St Oswald's Church in the village. Grasmere is also famous for its gingerbread, made to a secret recipe by Sarah Nelson since 1854 and still sold from a tiny shop beside the church. The lake itself is one of the smaller but most scenic in the Lake District, with wooded shores and surrounding fells.
