Ramsey Island

Ramsey Island, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Ramsey Island (Ynys Dewi in Welsh) is a 240-hectare island off the Pembrokeshire coast near St David's in west Wales, owned and managed by the RSPB as a nature reserve. The island has dramatic coastal scenery with sea cliffs rising to over 120 metres on the western side, providing nesting habitat for large numbers of seabirds including choughs, guillemots, razorbills, and peregrine falcons. Ramsey is also one of Britain's most important grey seal breeding sites, with around 400–600 pups born each autumn on the island's beaches. The island's name is believed to derive from the Old Norse word for 'ram island', reflecting the Viking influence on place names along this coast.
