Batley
Batley is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, situated approximately six miles south-west of Leeds and three miles north of Dewsbury. The town developed as a centre of the shoddy and mungo woollen industries in the 19th century, processing reclaimed wool to produce cheaper textiles, and has a strong industrial heritage. Batley has a diverse community and is known for Batley Variety Club, a well-known music venue in the 1960s and 70s that hosted many major international artists. The town is served by Batley railway station on the line between Leeds and Manchester via Huddersfield.
