Eastbourne

Eastbourne, East Sussex, England

Eastbourne is a large coastal town and borough in East Sussex, situated on the English Channel at the foot of the South Downs, approximately twenty-five miles east of Brighton. The town was largely developed as a planned Victorian resort under the patronage of the Duke of Devonshire from the 1850s onwards and is characterised by wide seafront boulevards, elegant terraces, and a well-maintained promenade. Eastbourne has the Beachy Head promontory to the west, the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, and the South Downs National Park begins at the town's western edge. The town is known as the Sunshine Coast due to its high average sunshine hours relative to the rest of the UK.
