National Portrait Gallery
The National Portrait Gallery is a public art gallery in the City of Westminster in central London, located adjacent to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Founded in 1856, it was the first portrait gallery in the world and holds the most extensive collection of portraits in the world, spanning Tudor times to the present day. The gallery underwent a major refurbishment and expansion, reopening in 2023 after a three-year closure, with improved public facilities and gallery spaces. Its collection includes works in many media including oil painting, photography, sculpture, and digital portraiture.
