Coniston Water
Coniston Water is a lake in the Lake District in Cumbria, England, stretching approximately 9 kilometres in a north to south direction in the valley west of the Old Man of Coniston mountain. It is the third largest lake in the Lake District and is well known as the site of Donald Campbell's fatal attempt on the world water speed record in Bluebird K7 in 1967. The village of Coniston at the northern end of the lake is associated with the art critic John Ruskin, who lived at Brantwood on the eastern shore. The lake and surrounding fells form part of the Lake District National Park.
