Trinity College

Trinity College, Dublin, Republic of Ireland

Trinity College Dublin is Ireland's oldest university, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I on the site of a former Augustinian priory near the southeast corner of Dublin city centre. The college's historic campus occupies approximately 19 hectares in the heart of the city and is characterised by its cobbled squares, Georgian buildings, and the famous Campanile bell tower. Its library houses the Book of Kells, an elaborately illuminated 9th-century gospel manuscript and one of Ireland's greatest cultural treasures. The college has educated many notable alumni including Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde, and Jonathan Swift.
