Tower Of London
The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, is a historic castle on the north bank of the River Thames in central London, founded by William the Conqueror in 1066. The complex includes the White Tower, which gives the entire castle its name, and has served at various times as a royal palace, a prison, an armoury, a treasury, and the home of the Crown Jewels, which remain on display there. The Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most visited tourist attractions in the United Kingdom, and is guarded by the famous Yeomen Warders, popularly known as Beefeaters.
