Charlestown Harbour
Charlestown Harbour is a small, well-preserved historic dock located in the village of Charlestown on the south Cornish coast, near St Austell. The harbour was constructed in the 1790s to designs by John Smeaton for the export of copper ore and china clay. It retains much of its original character, including the narrow lock gates, quayside buildings, and a museum dedicated to the history of shipwrecks. The harbour is home to several square-rigged sailing vessels and has been widely used as a film and television location, most recently for the BBC drama Poldark.
