Birling Gap
Birling Gap is a coastal hamlet and gap in the chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters, located between Eastbourne and the village of East Dean in East Sussex on the south coast of England. The site sits at a point where a dry valley meets the sea, forming a break in the otherwise continuous chalk cliff line that extends westwards to Cuckmere Haven. The beach below the cliffs is accessible via a staircase managed by the National Trust, and the location offers views along the dramatic white cliff coastline. The cliffs at Birling Gap are subject to rapid erosion, and several historic buildings in the hamlet have already been lost to the sea.
