Winchester Cathedral is a Church of England cathedral in Winchester, Hampshire, and one of the largest cathedrals in Europe in terms of overall length. It stands on the site of a Saxon minster and was begun in its current Norman form in 1079, with substantial rebuilding in the Perpendicular Gothic style carried out by Bishop William of Wykeham in the late 14th century. The cathedral contains the graves of several Anglo-Saxon kings and is the burial place of the novelist Jane Austen. It is a Grade I listed building and a major pilgrimage and tourist destination in southern England.
