Whitechapel
Whitechapel is a district in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in the East End of London, situated approximately 1 mile east of the City of London. The area has a long history of successive immigrant communities, including Huguenot, Jewish, and more recently Bangladeshi settlers, and Brick Lane on its northern edge is known as the centre of London's Bangladeshi community. Whitechapel is perhaps most widely known internationally for its association with the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888, and the area is also home to the Whitechapel Gallery and the Royal London Hospital.
