West Bromwich is a large town in the metropolitan borough of Sandwell in the West Midlands conurbation, situated approximately 6 miles northwest of Birmingham city centre. The town has a strong industrial heritage linked to the Black Country's metalworking and manufacturing traditions, and was an important centre of iron founding and tool making in the 18th and 19th centuries. West Bromwich is home to The Hawthorns, the football ground of West Bromwich Albion FC, which at approximately 150 metres above sea level is the highest above sea level of any Football League ground in England.
