Teesside
Teesside is an industrial and urban area in North East England centred on the lower Tees Valley, where the River Tees reaches the North Sea. The area is dominated by the towns of Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar, and Hartlepool, and has been a major centre of iron, steel, and chemical industries since the 19th century. The Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, a rare example of a transporter bridge still in operation, is an iconic symbol of the region's engineering heritage. Teesside does not correspond to a single administrative county but is a recognised geographic and cultural designation for the broader conurbation.
